Junayd, Shaykh
(1430, ¿Azerbaiyán iranio?–4 mar. 1460, cerca del río Kura).

Cuarto líder de la orden safawí de místicos sufíes (ver sufismo). Se convirtió en el superior de la orden a la muerte de su padre en 1447 y se propuso transformar una sociedad, hasta entonces conocida por su piedad y saber, en una fuerza política. La militarización de sus seguidores causó un conflicto con Jahān Shāh (m. 1467), gobernante del Azerbaiyán iranio, por lo que fue expulsado con sus partidarios de Ardabīl, el centro tradicional de la orden safawí, en 1448. Continuó su aventura militar en tierras de las actuales Siria y Turquía y finalmente murió en combate contra una fuerza de circasianos cristianos. Su hijo, FONT face=TahomaḤaydar, fue el continuador de sus políticas, que culminaron finalmente en la fundación de la dinastía safawí bajo el liderazgo del nieto de Junayd, Ismāīl I, asegurando el dominio del Islam chiita en Irán.
